What is Tae Kwon Do?

Tae (feet/kick) Kwon (hand/punch) Do (the way) is a martial art of self-defense that originated from Korea over 5000 years ago. It was originally developed to use during war to protect ancient Korean kingdoms from enemies. Currently, because of its unique system of self-defense and personal improvement, Tae Kwon Do is the fastest growing and most popular martial art worldwide with over 20 million practitioners in over 120 countries. Tae Kwon Do is also the only striking martial art that is an Official Olympic Sport of the Summer Olympic Games.

Our History

High Performance Martial Arts was established in 1997 by Master Jin W. Suh. Master Suh is a second generation Tae Kwon Do Master. He is also a former U.S.A. National Team Member, U.S.A. National Champion, U.S.A. National Collegiate Champion, U.S.A. National Team Coach and was selected as U.S.A. Taekwondo Coach of the Year. His son, Master Christian Suh is a third generation Tae Kwon Do Master and also a U.S.A. National Team Member and U.S.A. National Champion. Together, they are the first father and son in history to have both made the U.S.A. National Senior Team. High Performance is known nationwide as the top school in New York to train in Tae Kwon Do.

Our mission at High Performance Martial Arts is to teach the Life Skills of Respect, Courtesy, Positive Attitude, Focus, Integrity, Humility, Confidence, Loyalty, Discipline and Perseverance through the Korean Martial Art and Sport of Tae Kwon Do. Our goal is to teach our students to become Black Belts in Life. We are a Lifestyle program, designed to bring out the best version of ourselves.
